I really don’t have time to post much, but maybe I can at least get a few people to comment. A day or two ago, New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg quit the Republican party and switched his affiliation to be an independent. So I’ll ask the obvious question: Is Michael Bloomberg setting the stage for an independent presidential run?

Yes. He’s going to run. Watch out – it could be a New York face-off: Hillary, Guiliani, and Bloomberg. I don’t think Bloomberg has a shot, but I’m glad he might join the race, we need more options than just two parties in this election.

I agree that he’s going to run. I really don’t know much about his political beliefs, other than he’s typically described as a moderate and he has a enough money to easily fund his campaign (and outfund many of the others). There’s also talk about how if he does run, he may end up on the Unity 08 ticket, which will give him even more exposure and appeal. The economist has a good article on him:
